There is a rumor going around that the Ipad 3 will have glasses free 3D viewing technology similar to the Nintendo 3DS. While the Nintendo portable gaming system is fun in a way, the result of using it for an hour or so was a mild throbbing headache for me and a set of dying batteries for the poor kid who loaned it to me. Does the world need 3D ereaders or tablets? Ready or not, industry is eager to get consumers who are pretty happy with the technology they already have excited about 3D technology.
I personally would be more interested in a holographic ereader or table than I would with today’s 3D technology. The ability to lay my ereader down on the desk in front of me and see the screen floating in the air at eye level could convince me to part with some money and upgrade the technology I already have.
An ereader or tablet with a built in pico projector would be interesting as well. Pico projectors are just like your average projector except they are very small and energy efficient. You can project an image on any flat surface and have a really large multimedia experience with a very small equipment footprint and monetary investment.
No matter if, it is a holographic or pico projector, the resulting playback must be in color if manufacturers expect me to discard technology I am actually happy with for the moment. B&N is planning to release a Nook e-ink ereader soon and for the life of me, I cannot understand why.

I could understand if B&N was releasing a color e-ink version of the Nook, but to go backwards from a technological perspective is just silly in my book and counter indicative of what consumers have told tech companies they want. That is they want multifunction devices that do pretty much everything and have long lasting batteries.
Consumers have never been known to be a reasonable lot, but since they hold all the money, industries had better be prepared to listen to them in an ever increasingly competitive world where garage techies are building $25 Linux boxes the size of a USB stick. The world being if the mainstream tech industry does not fulfill consumer need, someone in their garage will.
What do you guys and girls think? Would you purchase a 3D ereader? What about a ereader with holographic or pico projector technology?
